E-Learning Unit

The purpose of the e-learning unit is the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational IT Projects, especially pilot projects, with highest priority given to E-learning projects. This is done through a project-based approach with each project having a designated lead, a named group of teachers collaborating on the project, a clear aim with timeframe and resource requirements. The unit meets monthly.

The School of Medicine and Dentistry has recently joined IVIMEDS (International Virtual Medical School) (www.ivimeds.org) which provides us with a repository of learning materials and a library of virtual patients. There is also the chance to interact with like-minded colleagues from medical schools around the world. Any member of staff interested in finding out more about how this is being used in the school and/or would like to join in please contact Dr Revest.

Ongoing E-Learning projects

Creation of virtual patients (VPs) using the IVIMEDS VP editor and their integration and evaluation in the MBBS curriculum.

Introducing the use of a Student Response System (TurningPoint) into the Year 1 MBBS curriculum. This will enable teachers to present interactive questions and surveys with the entire class in real time. A loan set of 100 handsets plus a dedicated laptop is also available.

Introduction of dedicated e-learning sessions into the year 1 MBBS curriculum using learning modules of interactive material from a number of sources including the IVIMEDS repository.

Video and audio recording of selected lectures which will be available for viewing on WebCT CE6. (http://www.elearning.qmul.ac.uk/webct/)
