Anthony Warrens graduated with a BSc in Immunology from the University of Glasgow and BM BCh, and subsequently DM, from the University of Oxford. He undertook his postgraduate training at the National Hospital for Nervous Disease, Queen Square, and the Brompton, Hammersmith and Ashford Hospitals. Following his PhD, he undertook a period of post-doctoral training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. In 1996, he was appointed Consultant Renal Physician at the Hammersmith Hospital and Senior Lecturer at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, which later became part of Imperial College London. His research interests include the mechanisms of rejection of transplanted organs, the potential for using animals as organ donors (xenotransplantation) and attitudes to organ donation. He established the Imperial College Graduate-Entry MB BS Programme and was appointed Dean for Education at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
